American painter Mary Jane Peale (1826-1902) was the daughter of Rubens and Eliza Peale and the granddaughter of Charles Willson Peale, and among the last of the Peale family to paint professionally. She was enrolled in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and studied under her uncle Rembrandt, Thomas Sully, and Thomas Eakins. Today her work can be seen in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Sheldon Museum of Art, and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, among others.
