Chinese export porcelain plate from the series “The Great Scene of Folly”, c.1722
The series was made for the Dutch market, and this plate was the sixth and final in the series that poked fun at the South Sea Company and related financial losses in Europe at the time – each plate with a similar composition and different captions. This caption translates to, “By God, lost all my shares.”
